  • Maths - please complete week 8 (pages 20 & 21) of Master Your Maths. If possible check questions 13 to 16 as we are focusing on problem solving in class at the moment. If you see any difficulties sit and go through with your child.
  • English - Read chapter 4 of Under the Hawthorn Tree and go through the question sheet to assess comprehension. No need to write the answers.
  • Irish Spellings - We will be revising up until the mid term break. The same 8 questions will be tested on Friday except for one difference. • English Spellings - this week's focus is the prefix 'mid'. List of words can be found to the right. This week's vocabulary is based on the current history topic = The Celts.
  • Duolingo - 50XP. I've spoken to the children in the class. Doing the same activity over and over will not be allowed from this point forward. The only time a lesson should be revised is when the bars next to it begin to decrease. When this happens the 'Strengthen' activity should be completed and not individual lessons.

Monday, 10 October 2016

Homework 10th - 14th October 2016
  • Maths - I've decided to change the format of maths homework for a while. Homework for the week will now be from the 'Master Your Maths' book. The questions cover a lot of the maths curriculum every night and need the mastery of key skills to complete. If possible please sit with your child for the math problem section (Q13 - Q16) and also check over all other questions. I will be going through similar word problems as found in the book to help with understand. Pagtes 18 and 19 to be completed for Friday correction.

  • English Spellings - This week's spellings focus on the prefix 'mis'. The vocabulary is based on the current science topic.
  • Irish Spelling - Irish spellings up until mid term will be revision. This coming Friday will be the same as last week i.e. I will ask the pupils to answer each question individually. The two Fridays before mid term, I will test their ability to write a paragraph about themselves without any prompts. Pupils will have to remember as many of the questions as possible from memory.
  • Duolingo - 50 XP challenge

We will be working on chapter one next week in class so it's important that everyone has an understanding of what happens. Please refrain from reading further chapters.
  • English Spellings - Please find spelling list to the right. This week's focus is 'ture'. Vocabulary words do not need to be learned off by heart. Understand is the most important thing.
  • Irish Spellings - Two new questions can be found in the list to the right. Revision of last two weeks. 6 questions in total.
  • Duolingo - 50XP Challenge

Sunday, 18 September 2016

Homework

  • Reading - Read synopsis of 'Under the Hawthorn Tree'. We'll be formally starting the novel next week.
  • English Spellings - The focus this week is on words containing the long 'a' sound.
  • Vocabulary - found on the same page as the English spellings. Children must understand what the words mean and be able to put them into a sentence. No need to do this at home. Discussing the words is enough.
  • Litriú Gaeilge - Following on from last week, the children must revise last week's questions and learn the two new answers.
  • Duolingo - 50XP challenge. Please remember that Duolingo is used instead of traditional written and reading homework.

Monday, 12 September 2016

Homework 12th - 16th September 2016

  • Maths - Two sided worksheet, reviewing what we have covered over the first two weeks of the school year. It's broken into four sections, one section for each day.
  • English Spellings - Spelling this week focus on two sound patterns. The first sound pattern is the 'f' sound that is made by 'ph' (photograph) and 'gh' (rough). The second pattern is 'ai' sound.
  • Irish Spellings - We're taking a different route with Irish spellings this week. We will be focus on the children's ability to write about themselves in Irish. Every week the children will have to learn how to write the answer to one or two questions. This weeks questions are 'Cad is ainm duit?' and 'Cen aois tu?' I will ask the children these two questions on Friday and they will need to write the answers. By the end of the term I hope that the children will be able to write a paragraph about themselves.
  • Geography - Map of Dublin. Children need to locate certain areas, towns or places on Google Maps and marked them on their own blank map of Dublin. I've gone through this with the children. The link to a good website is on the sheet.
  • Duolingo - Just like last year, I will set an XP challenge every week. This week's challenge is 50XP. I've reminded the children that they need to try different lessons and not repeat the same ones over and over. I also reminded them that if they have progressed to the point that it is too difficult that they should go back and repeat earlier lessons.
